Photo a Day – February 21, 2012

It’s hard to believe that this beautiful little girl is turning 4 on Sunday.

It seems like only yesterday that I found out she was breech and the doctor tried to turn her, several times, unsuccessfully.

It seems like only yesterday that they plucked her out of my stomach and held her up so I could lay eyes on her for the first time.

It seems like only yesterday that she lay in the NICU at Raffles Hospital, in Singapore, and was unable to be held by anyone.

It seems like only yesterday that she had “sunglasses” on as she lay under the ultraviolet light.

It seems like only yesterday that I had to wake her to feed, as she was happy to sleep, sleep and sleep some more.

It seems like only yesterday that I could practically hold her in my hand.

And now she is turning 4. Where has the time gone?

Before I know it, she will be going to “big school”.

Before I know it, she will be going to her Year 12 Formal.

Before I know it, she will be driving a car.

Before I know it, she will be completing university.

Before I know it, she will be getting married.

Before I know it, she will be having children of her own.

Why do all our children have to grow so fast? Why can’t time just slow down, so we can enjoy our babies?

Why can’t they stay innocent forever, and call me “my favourite mummy” (because, of course, she has a few it would seem)?

Why can’t time just stand still?

I’m happy for her that she’s turning 4. And I’m going to give her that “My Little Pony” party that she keeps on talking about.

But I just want life to stop going so damn fast. As if it isn’t already precious enough without flying by.

I want to look after her, and enjoy being her mummy, forever and ever.

Is that too much to ask?
