It’s the middle of winter. WINTER. And yet it’s 21C and sunny blue skies. Is there something wrong with this picture?
I thought winter was supposed to be cold, and wet, and miserable.
I thought winter meant jackets and jeans and boots.
I thought winter meant huddling under a duvet, beside a fire, drinking hot chocolate.
And yet, today I watched my children as they waded in the rock pools at Broadwater Parklands here on the Gold Coast, dressed in their swimmers, splashing in the pools, and even totally submerging themselves in the icy cold whirlpool at times.
When we lived in England, we were lucky to have a day like this in Summer time, let alone any other time of the year. Winters were close to unbearable – cold, snowy, bleak, dreary, and completely miserable! I hated English winters. And summertime wasn’t much better – cold, wet, dreary, and completely miserable except for maybe two whole weeks. No wonder so many Poms want to move here!
But Gold Coast winters are amazing. Rain is seldom, freezing temperatures are rare, and the only time we need warm clothes is at night time when the sun finally dips behind the hinterland.
Aaaahhhh. I know where I prefer living.
